A Witch is Born

The most interesting thing about this (at least to me) is that my main character Safire’s birthday coincides with the publishing date (March 3, 2010, although Amazon states March 11th for some reason) of The Witch Awakening. This was not planned–when I woke up yesterday morning, I realized the connection. For those of you who enjoy astrology as much as I do, that makes Safire and The Witch Awakening both Pisces. Considering that Pisces is arguably the most psychically attuned and intuitive of all the astrological signs, Safire’s witchy ways fall right in line with her sun sign!

Congratulations Karen! Wow! Lightning fast. Who needs a publisher? Love the front cover. Special meaning in that it’s your mother’s design. Can’t wait to have a copy in my hand. Love, Margaret

Wonderful Karen!!!
The opening chaper has me hooked, I am ordering as soon as I close this blog.
Also, I loved your Mom’s cover, is it a portrait of you? I seem to see your eyes in it.
Your Mom and Dad combined their love into someone really special, you are simply amazing dear one.
Much love,
Jim

Dear Jim–
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m not quite sure what inspired Mom when she drew this particular face–I found this pastel on the back of a another sketch in her stuff this past summer (both she and Dad left behind quite a legacy of art–I’m still finding things). Anyway I was struck by the image and its dreamy mistiness and resemblance to Safire, who’s a redhead. Also the old-fashioned rose has a symbolic significance in the story as well as the moon and stars, so I couldn’t think of a more fitting cover. One of the joys of self-publishing–I get to pick my own cover! Anyway, I hope you enjoy the rest of the story!
Love, Karen

Hi Jane,
Thank you so much for your comment! I’m three-quarters of the way through the rough draft of Phoenix Ashes and expect to have it done by May. Depending on my proof-readers’ schedules, I should be able to have the finished book out by mid-summer.
Have a lovely day and let me know if you have any more questions~
